Legendary Houston rapper, Scarface, is now in need of a kidney due to COVID-19 complications. He told one of the members of the rap group that he got started with in the 1980’s, Chuck D from The Geto Boys, that he had been diagnosed with the Coronavirus earlier this year, back in March when the deadly disease first hit the United States.

Scarface recently posted on Instagram that he was in need of someone who had a B+ blood type to donate him a kidney. And, when Atlanta rapper T.I. saw that post, he spread the word and offered a reward of an undisclosed amount of money for anyone who could donate a kidney to the 49-year-old Houston rapper. NY rapper Fat Joe also recently said that he has “a bag” for anyone who donates a kidney to the Southern MC whom they love so much.

According to BET, at one point during the first few weeks of contracting COVID-19, Face felt like he was going to die. He also explained how he had to change his whole diet because of getting the disease, as well as how he has to do dialysis several times each week. “COVID attacked my lungs first,” he said, “and then it attacked my kidneys and knocked them out. I got full lung recovery, but my kidneys never came back.”

Bodily Effects of COVID-19 on Scarface

The way that the Coronavirus affected Scarface’s body is consistent with a pattern of the way that the disease attacks many other people who contract it. COVID-19 is known to cause organ damage to the lungs, which is what he said that he suffered from first, when he was initially diagnosed. According to one report from Mayo Clinic, “The type of pneumonia often associated with COVID-19 can cause long-standing damage to the tiny air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. The resulting scar tissue can lead to long-term breathing problems.”

Through the grace of God, Brad Jordan (Scarface’s given name) beat the part when his lungs were hurt by the disease. But, now he needs a kidney donation in order to remain consistently healthy. T.I., Fat Joe, the City of Houston, and all of his fans across the United States and the world are hoping that someone comes forward who is of B+ blood type.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, “There is no cure for kidney failure, but with treatment it is possible to live a long life.” The foundation goes on to say that “having kidney failure is not a death sentence”, and that people who are living with that condition actually can live full lives and still do the things that they have always enjoyed.

A Quick Background on Scarface

The legendary rapper from Houston, Scarface, was born on November 9th, 1970, and is also known by the nicknames Mr. Scarface and Face Mob. Of the group that he got started with in the mid-80s, The Geto Boys, he is the only one to come out with solo albums, and they all went either platinum or gold.

The former President of Def Jam South has produced many classic hits over the years, with one of his most popular albums being The Untouchable, where he released the single ‘Smile’ with the late Tupac Shakur. We are all praying for his full recovery from COVID-19, and for a successful kidney donation and transplant in the near future.
